“Girls” Spoiler: Donald Glover’s Role Explained
We were simultaneously madly jealous/intrigued when paparazzi snaps showed Lena Dunham filming scenes of “Girls” with Donald Glover. Season two isn’t back until next week but a lil’ spoiler (after the jump!) at The Hollywood Reporter has some deets on what he’s doing with Hot-Mess Hannah Horvath.
Writes reviewer Tim Goodman:
Hannah is now dating a handsome black Republican named Sandy (Donald Glover) … When Sandy calls out Hannah’s knowledge of race and its ramifications, she goes on a self-righteous, defensive rant, and Sandy says, “You just said a Missy Elliott lyric.”
Hannah is dating a black Republican? Hmm. I wonder whether he’ll stick around for more than one episode (i.e. have a prolonged character arc) or whether this will a “Sex and the City”-style moment where Hannah gets a teachable moment by dating someone not like her. Since Dunham was hammered last season for not having much representation of people of color on “Girls,” she can be sure to be under a lot of scrutiny either way.
