One Skirt, Worn Three Ways

We’ve long been obsessed with leather (or faux-leather) pieces for fall and winter — there’s no other material in the world that has quite the same edgy, effortless downtown appeal. Plus, it’s warm! A pleated black leather skirt is the perfect versatile accoutrement for the season’s wardrobe. It can go cute and casual with a pair of flats and a T-shirt, or you can dress it up with a collared silk blouse for work or play. We’ve put together three foolproof looks, complete with styling tips, after the jump.

The Skirt: Sparkle & Fade Pleated Faux Leather Skirt, $59, Urban Outfitters

Look 1
Worn with a slouchy oatmeal-colored sweater, a pair of fur-trimmed lace-up booties, and gold accessories (a watch makes you look a little more, you know, responsible), this look is comfortable and casual yet still hip enough for a night out. Tuck just the front of the sweater into the waistband and pull it out a bit around the waist to create a blousy, billowy shape.

Knitted Grill Stitch Jumper, $72, Topshop
Jersey Tights, $28, Lacoste
Timex Starry Nite Watch, $95, Bloomingdale’s
Dolce Vita Belix Fur-Cuff Short Boot, $139.30, Last Call

Look 2
This look is dressy enough for work, but it definitely isn’t conservative or bland. You can wear the shirt tucked in or left out, but if you do choose to tuck it in, be sure to keep it loose. Button up all the way and wear a statement collar necklace over the shirt for an on-trend vibe that still keeps it simple. And really, is there anything cuter than this heart-print blouse?

Via Spiga Brushed Luxe Tights, $12.95, DSW
Chinese Laundry Danger Zone Pump, $89.95, Nordstrom
Piano Key Collar, $28, Topshop
J. Crew Heart Throb Printed Stretch-Silk Shirt, $135, Net-a-porter

Look 3
The most casual of the looks, this one is for those days that you want to look and feel as comfortable as possible without looking like you just rolled out of bed. A slightly cropped long-sleeve burgundy tee is perfect for fall, and ribbed black wool tights are the epitome of trying-to-maintain-temperature-equilibrium chic. Suede booties with a sky-high wedge are easier to wear than a slimmer heel, and a simple gold weave bracelet adds a bit of flash to an otherwise laid-back look.

Classic Long Sleeve Tee, $85, Rag & Bone
Hansel From Basel Wool Rib Tights, $36, La Garçonne
Bop Bijoux Zipper Chain Bracelet, $70, Shopbop
Michael Michael Kors Emory Wedge Suede Ankle Boots, $225, Lord & Taylor
