Last week, Billie Joe Armstrong melted down onstage at the IHeartMusic Festival and over the weekend he checked into rehab for substance abuse. Here his pal Alanis Morrissette covers Green Day’s song “Basket Case” on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in the most Alanis Morrisette-y way possible, meaning as a ballad. She told Billboard.com, “We’re all figuring it out. So let’s just support the fragile artist. I’ve always been an advocate and supporter of artists and Billie Joe to me — he deserves to be bowed down to, He’s been in this industry for a long time and so for him to experience the consequence of a system that kind of set it up for him to fail is a travesty to me.” Alanis sang “Basket Case” earlier this week at a concert in Pomona, California, too. I prefer the Green Day version, to put it politely, but it’s sweet the way she’s publicly supporting her friend. [Billboard]
