The World Is Cheering For Obie, The Dachshund Biggest Loser

This is Obie, who is quickly gaining fame in his quest to lose weight and become the Dachshund Biggest Loser. His story began when a relative of his owners, an elderly couple in failing health, asked the Oregon Dachshund Rescue for help. They’d been showing Obie love with food and were unable to provide him with physical activity, and now this pup was in trouble. The organization posted a plea on Facebook: could someone foster Obie and help him get healthy? Nora Vanatta, an EMT and veterinary technician from Portland, stepped up to the plate, and when Obie arrived from Seattle, he weighed a whopping 77 pounds. Now this sweet pup is in the process of losing 40 pounds on a low-fat, high-protein diet, and inspiring other overweight canines to get fit with his “Biggest Loser, Doxie Edition” Facebook page, which already has over 33,000 fans. “My hope is that he can be an inspiration to any person or animal trying to lose weight,” says Vanatta. Obie, we’re all cheering for you. [OregonLive]
