Guys, Let’s Race The Mongol Rally

Julie Gerstein / July 7, 2012

The Mongol Rally is an overland race of epic proportions, aimed at having as much fun and adventure as possible. Since its inception in 2004, the rally has expanded from six teams to nearly 300, with almost 800 competitors — most of whom are male. The main rule of the Mongol Rally is that the car competing must be 1,200 cc’s or less, meaning most teams are riding in total junkers, and some have to literally push their cars over the finish line. Teams typically have two to four members, who take on the daunting (and fun!) task of driving from London to Ulan Baatar, Mongolia. It’s all for fun, and charity. Since its inception, the Mongol Rally has raised nearly $4 million for charitable organizations.

But really, it’s all about having a ridiculous time. Here, the rally team Fast and Curious recounts how they accidentally overturned their car and blew out all their windows. [The Adventurists]
