I Don’t Care What Anyone Says, I Still Think Mermaids Are Real
If you watched “Mermaids: The Body Found” on Animal Planet and were more convinced than ever that mermaids exist or existed at some point, the National Ocean Service wants to rain on your parade. The government organization, which is part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, released information on its website saying, “No evidence of aquatic humanoids has ever been found.” For those of you who are not up on your mermaid theory, the term “aquatic humanoids” is a reference to Aquatic Ape Hypothesis, which posits that humans had an water-friendly phase in our evolution.
The Animal Planet maintains that the show is “a story about evolutionary possibility grounded in radical scientific theory.” I don’t care what anyone says, I know that humans would have thrived with flippers and long, flowing mermaid hair. I have believed since “Splash” and will continue to believe in mermaids and Bigfoot and elves and the Loch Ness Monster and all other mythical creatures just because I feel like it. Factual evidence be damned! [MSNBC]
