“You deserve more than just somebody who’s nice to you. I think that so often these days, niceness seems like it should be enough because it seems like such a rare quality but when you get inside of it, you think, ‘Hmmm … I can be pretty nice to myself.’ What about these other things? Life is too short and too crappy to not try to get more of what you want.”
– Michelle Williams speaks to Flare about relationships and that everyone deserves more from a partner than just basic kindness. Williams is promoting her fantastic new indie film, “Take This Waltz,” directed by Sarah Polley, which I saw this weekend and haven’t stopped thinking about. Read more about it and see the trailer, after the jump!
The film is about a woman named Margot who, despite being pretty happily married to her husband (played by Seth Rogen at his very, very best) falls in love with the artsy guy across the street (dreamy Luke Kirby). I found the film to be incredibly moving in its depiction of a marriage gone static and how easy it is to forget that something new will eventually be old too. Of her character, Williams says:
“I thought about [this movie] as a coming-of-age story. Not in the pubescent way, but a girl on the verge of becoming a woman, of that transition that you make in your late 20s or early 30s. She’s yet to experience a great kind of sadness. And I think that that’s the thing that kind of plants her into adulthood.”
Williams is absolutely exquisite in it, and she has fabulous chemistry with Kirby and Rogen. (Oh yeah, and this is also the movie where you see her and Sarah Silverman naked in a shower.) One scene was so hot, I actually had to pause the movie and take a deep breath. Anyway, please see it! It is so good! [Just Jared]
