Would You Wait In Line For A Pair Of Shoes?
The other morning, as I was walking to work, I passed a long line of guys passed out in camping chairs on the sidewalk. They’d been there all night, presumably, waiting for the much-anticipated new Air Yeezy 2 shoe — the second collaboration between Kanye West (that’s Yeezy) and Nike. The crowd began dispersing as I walked by, after the 34th St. Foot Locker put up a sign saying that they wouldn’t be getting any of the shoes in, and the sneakerheads would have to look elsewhere to cop a pair.
And they did. According to The New York Daily News, pairs of the shoes, which retail for $245, are going for as much as $80,000 on eBay (thoug most pre-orders are around $3,000 to $5,000). The shoes will officially be released on Saturday.
The culture of shoe collectors and sneakerheads dictates that the waiting in line and camping out is part of the process. You get to say that you were the first in line, or the first at the counter. But is there anything comparable in women’s fashion? Have you ever waited in line, or camped out for a special bag, or limited edition piece of jewelry? Tell us in the comments!
