Oh, John Edwards, you never stop being entertaining, do you? Last week, various news reports suggested that there’s some trouble in the North Carolina courtroom where Edwards is on trial for allegedly using campaign funds to hide his pregnant mistress. Namely, he is flirting with an alternate juror. As ABC News put it:

[I]t has been impossible to ignore the dynamic between Edwards and one of the female alternates, an attractive young woman with jet-black hair, who seems to have been flirting with Edwards for days. The juror clearly instigated the exchanges. She smiles at him. He smiles  politely back at her. She giggles. He blushes.

The Washington Post added that the same alternate juror “has been spotted smiling at Edwards and flipping her hair in what seems to some to be a flirtatious manner.”

Come on, lady. The guy cheated on his wife while she was dying from cancer. He tried to hide his mistress and love child.  He allegedly used money that he wasn’t supposed to be using to cover it up. Get some standards.

That’s not the only flirting the former senator has been up to lately. Today, The New York Post also reported that last spring, Edwards hung around dive bars outside Chapel Hill, North Caroline, flirting with women many decades his junior. A 25-year-old woman named Andrea Love called Edwards “charming” and told the Post she gave him her number. (Her mother told the paper his behavior towards her daughter is “inappropriate.”)

Science needs to devote time and resources to understanding this phenomenon: for some reason, for some women, John Edwards is hard to resist.
