Today In People Are Terrible: Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson Says Women Shouldn’t Be Allowed To Vote
Today In People Are Terrible, a reverend named Jesse Lee Peterson has claimed women “can’t handle stress,” “go nuts,” and “freak out” and therefore shouldn’t be allowed to vote.
In a speech for his organization, BOND, a conservative African-American group which claims to promote “Men, Families and Faith,” Rev. Peterson longed for “the good old days” when “men were tougher” and “in charge.” (Are we shocked to learn this gentleman is also a frequent guest of Sean Hannity’s on Fox News?) Why, he even calls his own grandma “crazy” — and is nostalgic for the days when men like his grandfather would “deal with it.”
You can watch Rev. Peterson’s speech, or I’ve transcribed most of his misogyny-spewing speech after the jump (with the most WTF-iest WTF parts in bold!):
The first problem, you see, is that ladies be in charge:
One of the primary reasons that it is over for America is because women are taking over. They are in high so-called “powerful” [makes air quotes] positions. They’re running companies, they’re making decisions. And … not all, not all, not all … I see [someone in audience] giving me a funny face. There are some, a few out there, logical women who can make sound decisions. Most cannot. And the unfortunate thing is that they’re in powerful positions, they’re running businesses, things like that. And one thing I know for sure, without a doubt, women cannot handle power. It’s not in them to handle power in the right way. They don’t know what to do with it. And secondly, it’s not real power anyway. Power that the world gives you is not power. It’s all ego-building. True power comes from God and God is the one who gave man power and authority over the wife and to spiritually guide the world. And I realize that man made mistakes in the past, but most men did not make mistakes in the past. When men were in charge, men were tougher and more solid. It’s not like that anymore.
But, ladies, you don’t need to be in charge. What you need to stop whoring around, you shameless whores.
One thing I have realized the world has done to women: women have been degraded. They have no shame. There is a woman from Georgetown University, I know you heard about this story … [Sandra Fluke] testified before a committee about condoms and birth control … in her testimony she said that women need — and I’m paraphrasing because I don’t have all her exact words — she said women need to be able to get free birth control, free condoms … she said its not right a woman can’t get it, especially in college. She said its not right women in colleges spend up to $3,000 on birth control and condoms and this like that, per person. This woman’s sitting there testifying about all the sex they’re having. And it’s really about maintaining the freedom to kill babies in the womb. It’s about that. That’s how this all started. The government trying to force the Christian community, the Catholic Church, to pass out morning-after pills and all that. [Note: HA! HA!] This woman is testifying about how much sex they’re having out of wedlock, with no shame. Women would not have done that in the good old days. There would have been a sense of shame about it. She had no shame about it.
Rush Limbaugh called her a slut. She didn’t realize she looked like a slut, sitting there, confessing that kind of thing. And I thought, wow, what happened to women that this is okay for them to exploit themselves in that way? How did we get to a point where women think we should pay for them to have sex. They want to force us to buy them birth control. … Most of the time you’re too embarrassed to let people know you even use those things, but how did we get to a point now where these women are fighting to make us pay for that? They want to have sex out of wedlock, they want to have abortions, and they want us to pay for it. … No one is saying “Where’s your shame, woman? Why aren’t you embarrassed? What happened to you?” It’s unfortunate that men are so weak, they’ve been so intimidated, they’ve let these women run wild and screw up everything, including their soul and their children. And if you speak up about it, Satan got it set up through the woman that you’re going to be punished in some kind of way.
The second problem is that ladies be crazy:
… Another big mistake is to put women in powerful positions. They can’t handle stress. They can’t handle anything. You walk up to them with an issue, they freak out right away. Especially if they can’t get the problem resolved right away. I’ve seen it happen at the airport, the banks, the post office. When an issue go wrong, they go nuts. They get mad. They get upset. They have no patience. Because it’s not in their nature. …
Really, you crazy sluts just shouldn’t be allowed to vote.
I think one of the greatest mistakes that America made was to allow women the opportunity to vote. We should have never turned it over to women. It was a big mistake. … Right now 50 percent of the voting population are women. Did you know that? There are more women voting out there than men now. And these women are voting in the wrong people. They’re voting in people who are evil, who agree with them, who will take us down the path of destruction. This is probably the reason they didn’t allow women to vote when men were men. Because men, in the good old days, understood the nature of the woman. They were not afraid to deal with it. And they understood that if you let them take over, this will happen. I remember when my grandmother would do stupid stuff and I would talk to my granddad about it, he would say, “Your grandmother is crazy. That old woman is just crazy.” And he would straighten the situation out for us. But you can’t go to Dad and tell him about Mom anymore, because Dad is afraid of Mom. He won’t deal with it. It’s so unfortunate. But this is how evil is coming in, it’s coming through the woman. … Look at every place where a woman is in control and you see nothing but confusion.
Rev. Peterson eventually got confronted for his ignorant asshattery on Sean Hannity’s show on May 1, when fellow guest Kirsten Powers called him out for his misogyny, as well as calling Sandra Fluke a “slut.” Peterson’s organization has helpfully posted the video online with the heading, “Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson vs. Angry Feminist Kirsten Powers.” Which probably wasn’t a bright idea because he gets his ass handed to him on a platter.
