Nutley, New Jersey, mother Patricia Krentcil really likes tanning. That’s obvious when you look at her oranged-up skin and bleached hair. But police officials in Nutley believe that Krentcil likes tanning so much that she brought her five-year-old daughter into the tanning booth with her, giving the child serious burns.
Krentcil’s daughter Anna, who is fair-skinned and red-headed, came to school with serious burns. After the school nurse questioned the girl, she revealed that she had been “tanning with mommy.” Krentcil said her daughter came to the salon with her, but didn’t go into the booth.
Under New Jersey law it’s illegal for anyone under the age of 14 to go tanning (this is the land of Snooki, after all). Krentcil insists her daughter got the burns from playing out in the sun. “I never once in my life let my daughter, especially at that age, go into a tanning booth,” Krentcil told reporters. “That will be her choice when she’s older and legal to go into a tanning booth. She does not go tanning now, end of story.”
Krentcil pleaded not guilty to second degree child endangerment. [LA Times]
