Tennessee Sex Ed Bill Warns Against Hand-Holding & Other “Gateway Sexual Activity” On The Road To Slutdom

There’s a point where abstinence-only sex education becomes not just ineffectual and wasteful, but actually funny.  And that point is in a Tennessee bill that will require teachers to preach abstinence and warn young’uns about “gateway sexual activity” like hand-holding, cuddling, and hugging. You know, the real slutty stuff.

The bill’s sponsor claims it doesn’t specifically require teachers to tell kids not to do these things; it broadly directs teachers to warn kids about “sexual conduct encouraging an individual to engage in non-abstinent behavior,” which critics say is too vague and open to interpretation.  TN’s legislature actually sent this bill to Governor Bill Haslam on Friday, which would impose a $500 fine on groups like Planned Parenthood that actually teach sex education and even allow parents to sue teachers.

Good luck discouraging teen pregnancy by refusing to teach youngsters how not to get pregnant! Maybe MTV should just name their next show, “16 & Pregnant: Tennessee.”
