After more than a year of speculation, a new designer has been chosen to head up Christian Dior. Raf Simons, formerly of Jil Sander, will take over the position vacated by John Galliano after the designer was fired from his role for making anti-semetic remarks in February 2011. Several designers–including Marc Jacobs, Hedi Slimane and jokingly, Kanye West–were allegedly in the running for the position. In February, Simons was fired from Jil Sander suddenly, though some believe a deal had been in the works with Dior for some time. “The first time I heard about the Dior position,” said Simons of his new appointment, “I thought, ‘This feels right.’” [NYT]
