I feel strangely ambivalent in regards to hair accessories. I love the look of them — there’s nothing cuter than a well-placed decorative clip or a contrasting headband accenting a ’60s-style bouffant … on someone else. I own a variety of hair accessories, which I often put on in the morning and end up pulling out right before I leave the house, because as a person with a great amount of nervous energy and an even greater amount of discontentment with my appearance (I’m so much fun), I just can’t seem to keep anything in my hair for longer than an hour or two. That being said, I have some kind of magnetic attraction to floral hair accessories that leads me to buy them and spend far more time debating wearing them and preening in front of the mirror wearing them than actually, you know, wearing them. Seeing as I’m a decidedly un-floral person in most other aspects, it must be the San Franciscan in me that’s drawn to a little flower perched atop a bobby pin — I just can’t help myself. I’m particularly obsessed with the perfect chiffon peonies that J. Crew sells in a million gorgeous colors (in stores only), but how easy would these be to DIY? I’ve never DAM (Done Anything Myself) because I am exceedingly untrustworthy with a hot glue gun, but this is one craft I think I could pull off without a hitch. Would you wear them? Would you wear them all day? If so, you are a far stronger person than I.
