Gay Guys On Caribbean Cruise Busted For Buggery
John Hart and Dennis Mayer, both of Southern California, were arrested this week on the Caribbean island of Dominica after they were seen “naked, fondling each other” from the balcony of their cabin Celebrity Summit cruise ship in plain sight of people on land. Both seafaring sodomites plead guilty in court today to “indecent exposure” but claimed they weren’t committing public acts of buggery. “They were struck by the beautiful mountains, the clean and clear fresh air and were having a few cocktails, and so threw caution to the wind,” their lawyer told the Dominican court. Cocktails? Fresh air? Beautiful mountains? Suuure they were just hangin’ out.
In any case, these randy rogues have been ordered to pay a $900 fine for their cocktail-infused tomfoolery. After their hearing, they made a hasty retreat for the airport.
Perhaps this incident is Dominica’s way of signaling to gay cruises that they are no longer welcome? Or is this another case of “ugly Americans” in foreign countries forgetting “when in Rome, do as Romans do” — even if Rome’s laws are bigoted? Why a gay cruise would sail to place where attitudes to homosexuality are hostile will be a mystery for the ages. And why two gay men would allegedly have sex in public in such a place will be a mystery for the millenium.
