Ridiculously sensational headlines like “$1 Abortions in ObamaCare” and “ObamaCare: Home of the $1 Abortions” are what’s buzzing at the pro-life water cooler today. These headlines would have you believe that under the President’s health care reform, taxpayer funding will pay for abortions that cost just a buck.
If this “breaking news” could be found on sites other than LifeNews.com, the Christian Post, or the Family Research Council website, maybe I would be more inclined to believe it. Upon further investigation, though, the “$1 abortions” claim can be traced back to a “knowledgeable pro-life source on Capitol Hill” who told LifeNews.com that all persons enrolled in insurance plans that include elective abortion coverage would pay a separate surcharge of $1, in addition to their premium.
The $1 premium could be valid, although we’re going to wait for that news to be delivered via an actual news outlet, not an anti-abortion website. But the bigger question is how would an individual paying an extra dollar for an insurance plan that includes elective abortion coverage equate “taxpayers-at-large” paying for the procedure?
Well, on a positive side note, I am going to hire a pro-lifer to MC my next birthday party. When things get a little boring, you can always count on a pro-life hype man to get people’s attention. [Fox News]
