Topshop has been making waves in mass market American fashion since its stateside debut in 2009. The corporation is recognized not only for its middle-price, high-fashion appeal but also its association with Kate Moss and, more recently, It girl print-goddess designer Mary Katrantzou. Next up for the brand will be a special line of designer T-shirts in honor of London Fashion Week and the tenth anniversary of the NEWGEN partnership Topshop shares with the British Fashion Council. The NEWGEN fund seeks to enable an emerging generation of designers, and many of the grant’s recipients are participating in this collaboration. I don’t recognize all of the contributing alumni, but T-shirts designed by Christopher Kane, Richard Nicoll, Erdem, Peter Pilotto, Ashish, Meadham Kirchhoff, Jonathan Saunders, Gareth Pugh, Mary Katrantzou, Roksanda Ilincic, and Marios Schwab, among others, will be sold overseas in stores and online during London Fashion Week. To my dismay (I’ve got my eye on the toile and lace design by Erdem), American Topshops will not be stocking them … but if you’re anything like me, you’ll be determinedly stalking eBay, mouse at the ready. Certainly there must be a charitable Brit seeking to reap the benefits of reselling the collection?
