Valentine’s Day Date Inspiration: French Dinner À Deux
Who does love better than the French? (Well, we’re guessing, you.) Channel Parisian romance this Saint-Valentin day. Get all the details, after the jump!
A Dramatic Lip Shade: You can always go with a classic Chanel red, but one of our favorite French makeup (and fashion) brands is Paul & Joe. [Paul & Joe “Belle Epoque” Lipstick, $20, Amazon]
A Hearty Dish: Even an amateur cook can handle Beef Bourguignon, a wintery one-pot dish flavored with red wine. [Simply Reciples]
Drinks: Instead of champagne, try Lillet, a sweet, fragrant aperetif. Serve on the rocks with a twist of lemon. [$14.99, The Wine Club]
Tunes: If you want it old school, check out Edith Piaf, Juliette Greco, Yves Montand, or Django Reinhardt. As for more modern stuff, we’re into François & The Atlas Mountains, Dana Boulé, and Keren Ann.
Macarons: If you want to try cooking your own, try these tips from Parisian-based pastry genius David Lebovitz. As for skipping the hard work, it’s apparently pretty hard to purchase authentic French macarons from some of the bigger Parisian suppliers (Pierre Hermé, Ladurée), but Lette is the real deal stateside. Sweet and bite-sized, they add some color and whimsy to the end of a meal. [Lette Box of 24 Macarons, $45, Dean and Deluca]
Lingerie: It’s almost too easy to create a French-themed evening and not have some crazy getup under there. But, if you’re looking for something more tongue-in-cheek, try some cute panties with romantic phrases written on the bum. [$65, Kiki de Montparnasse]
