Tavi Lends Her Voice To A New Animated Short Film

It’s hard not to love Tavi. I’m generally opposed to any and all things “twee,” but Tavi has enough brains and sass to transcend the genre. When I first heard about this “13-year-old fashion blogger” a couple years ago, I envisioned a delusional, entitled teen brandishing her mother’s Birkin bag, shooting photos of herself on a $1,000+ digital camera she got for her birthday (thank god that kind of thing is mostly relegated to my hometown). In other words, a childlike slip of a girl with wide, unsettling eyes and an old soul was not the image that sprung to mind — but that’s Tavi! At first, I was a skeptic; now, I’m a fan … and pretty much everyone else is, too. Tavi’s next project, an animated short film, is vastly different and mostly unexpected, but I’ve got a good feeling about it. Called Cadaver, the film tells the story of a man who has died, then comes back to life at the morgue to seek closure. Tavi’s role is Lynn, the medical student who is performing an autopsy on the corpse when he reanimates. She also narrates the film. Tavi isn’t the only notable name attached to this project — Christopher Lloyd of “Back to the Future” fame will play the man back from the dead with Kathy Bates as his wife. Most exciting, Neil Young personally and exclusively gave Tavi permission to sing his classic “Heart of Gold” for the film, which he’s only done a handful of times since the song was released in 1972. Um, amazing! I can’t wait to check out this short — what about you? In the meantime, you can watch the trailer here. [NY Mag.com]
