The documentary about New York’s drag scene, “Paris is Burning,” is one of my favorite movies of all time, so it figures that I’m really excited to check out the new book, Voguing and the House Ballroom Scene of New York. The book chronicles all the families, houses and performers of New York’s vibrant drag scene of the late ’80s and early ’90s with striking photos and interviews with the remaining members of the community. Given that many of the original drag crews have fallen victim to AIDS, it’s lucky that we’re able to see these beautiful reminders of their past glory. [$26.39, Amazon]
