Meet Joseph Altuzarra, the New CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund Winner

Joseph Altuzarra’s eponymous collection has only been around since 2009, but it hasn’t taken him long to make a name for himself. This week, it was announced that Altuzarra’s line of womenswear received the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s highest honor — the Vogue Fashion Fund Award, which each year honors a rising young fashion designer who is believed to be making a mark in the industry. Past winners include Billy Reid, Alexander Wang, Trovata and Proenza Schouler. Jewelry designer Pamela Love and womenswear designers Creature of the Wind were runners up, and will each receive $100,000.

Altuzarra got his start in fashion interning at Marc Jacobs, before heading to Proenza Schouler. He did a stint at Givenchy in Paris under esteemed designer Ricardo Tischi and decided to move back to New York to launch his own label.

What does Altuzarra win? A cool $300,000 and mentoring opportunities with other CFDA members. He’ll also likely do a collaboration with J. Crew, as last year’s winners did. Plus, he now knows that he’s definitely the apple of Anna Wintour’s eye. [Thread NY]
