It’s been 30 years since movie star Natalie Wood (“West Side Story,” “Miracle on 34th Street,” “Rebel Without A Cause”) allegedly drowned during a yacht party. This morning, the captain of the Splendour (the boat she was on) appeared on the “The Today Show” to talk about what he says really happened that evening. In his co-authored book, Goodbye Natalie, Goodbye Splendour, Captain Dennis Davern claims it was her husband, Robert Wagner, who was responsible for Natalie’s death.
Davern claims that there was a drug- and alcohol-fueled argument that took place between Robert and Natalie over another famous party guest, Christopher Walken. Robert allegedly became agitated, accusing Natalie and Christopher of wanting to sleep together. Davern claims he didn’t do everything he should have to search for Natalie and he lied on a report to keep the investigation low profile as instructed by Wagner. God, I hope this is not some kind of an elaborate stunt to move copies of his book on the 30th anniversary of Natalie’s death. Whether that’s the case or not, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is taking Davern’s allegations seriously. They have officially reopened the investigation into her death.
