Straight Rugby Player Wakes Up Gay After Stroke

Brit rugy player Chris Birch was a regular 26-year-old straight dude, with a fiance and everything. He worked at a bank, and spent his free time drinking beer and watching sports with his friends. And then one day he had a freak accident at the gym–he was trying to do a back flip but broke his neck–suffered a stroke and wound up in a coma. And here’s where things get weird.

When Chris woke up from his coma he was completely, totally, fabulously gay.

“It sounds strange but when I came round I immediately felt different,” Chris explained to the Daily Mail. “I wasn’t interested in women any more. I was definitely gay. I had never been attracted to a man before–I’d never even had any gay friends. But I didn’t care about who I was before, I had to be true to my feelings.”

Chris ditched his stunned girlfriend and his bank job, and went back to school to be, yup, a hairdresser. Now he lives with his boyfriend Jack in an apartment above the salon he works in.

It’s common for brain injuries to cause dramatic changes in people’s personalities. Some stroke sufferers have been known to wake up speaking with new accents, or expressing new, previously undiscovered talents–but this is the first case of someone switching sexual orientation (that we’ve heard of).

Chris says he loves his new life. “I think I’m happier than ever, so I don’t regret the accident. I’m nothing like the old Chris now and although I’m sorry it’s upset my family, I wouldn’t change a thing.” [Daily Mail]
