Jon Hamm has nabbed himself four Emmys playing the now-iconic role of Don Draper on “Mad Men.” But apparently, he was not producers first choice for the role. And he actually knows who the makers of the show originally had in mind for the starring role—Thomas Jane of “Hung.” “Nobody knew who I was. The casting directors didn’t know who I was. I wasn’t on anybody’s lists,” Jon explained on comedian Marc Maron’s podcast this week. “The funny thing was, I think they went to Thomas Jane for it, and they were told that Thomas Jane does not do television.” Hee hee. In Hollywood, this happens all the time—big actors often turn down parts that then make a newcomer a bonafide star. Did you know that Michelle Pfeiffer was the original choice for “Pretty Woman?” Or that Kellan Lutz was turned down audition for Edward Cullen in “Twilight”? Many more examples after the jump.
