There have been some good “Saturday Night Live” hosts (Zach Galifianakis, Jon Hamm) and some bad (January Jones). There have been far too many mediocre hosts to count. But count Melissa McCarthy among the rare celebrity hosts (like Justin Timberlake) that can actually hold her own among, and at times outshine, the show’s cast. As the host of SNL’s second show of the season, McCarthy nailed each and every sketch, from her opening monologue (above) which saw her “dancing” alongside “Bridesmaids” co-stars Kristin Wiig, to a skit in which she played a desperate-to-please taste tester at a focus group.
