Christina Ricci Says “Pan Am” Isn’t A “Mad Men” Knockoff

“It’s a great comparison to get; ‘Mad Men‘ is a great show and I’m a huge fan. But that does focus more on a man’s experience of that time period and this is much more about these women. These were really women who were taking control of their lives and living in a very feminist kind of way. They weren’t the average women.”

Christina Ricci in Manhattan magazine about her new show, “Pan Am” and the comparisons it is getting to the critics’ favorite, “Mad Men.” “Pan Am” is just one of two ’60s retro-inspired TV shows debuting this season: the other is “The Playboy Club.” I, for one, am a little skeptical about the influx of “Mad Men” knockoff shows, mostly because “Mad Men” is brilliantly incisive while “The Playboy Club” really looks like it’s glossing over some sexist awfulness and portraying it as really kitschy and fun. But “Pan Am” has always looked like the superior of the two programs and the adventures of four female flight attendants sounds fascinating. And who doesn’t love the idea of Christina Ricci on TV?
