Why We Can’t Wait For Charlize Theron In “Young Adult”

As a devout fan of Judy Blume, The Babysitter’s Club, and Sweet Valley High books, the entire Frisky staff’s interest has been piqued by this just-released poster for “Young Adult,” screenwriter Diablo Cody’s third flick. It’s an awesome send-up of the traditional young adult book cover and, all of a sudden, we can’t wait for this movie which sadly doesn’t come out until early December. The flick tells the tale of a 30-something young adult fiction writer, played by Charlize Theron. She’s an alcoholic divorcee who is not in a great place when she gets a birth announcement from an ex-boyfriend. She decides to go back to her hometown and see how he’s doing. Which leads down a slippery slope toward stalking. The Playlist, who had the pleasure of reading the script, have great things to say about it. They wrote in April, “[It is] thankfully much more complex and emotionally layered than ‘crazy-bitch-stalks-her-old-bf.’ It’s also [Diable Cody’s] most mature effort to date, largely dispensing with the annoying slang she’s been tagged with and is refreshingly unhip … It’s funny, yet sad/pathetic and a little unflinching in the way it doesn’t let the female lead’s grotesque narcissism and or insecurities off the hook.”

Also giving me high hopes? The fact that Charlize is always is amazing. And that Diablo and director Jason Reitman spun cinematic gold with “Juno,” and have teamed up again for this project.

What do you think? Are you excited for it?
