Over the long weekend, Jake Gyllenhaal was obviously slutting it up. And by slutting it up, I mean that he (gasp!) went to lunch with Rashida Jones at a cafe in Los Angeles, and the very next day dared to (ZOMG!) go to Subway and give a one-arm hug to his “End of Watch” co-star, Anna Kendrick. Just like I did the other week, I watched both stories develop from minute little tidbits into full-out scandals via the headlines appearing in my Google Reader. After the jump, how both rumors grew more and more salacious over the course of just a few hours.
- The Rashida rumor began on Monday: “Jake Gyllenhaal And Rashida Jones Grab Lunch” (Monday, 8:50 a.m.)
- It escalated slightly to: “Jake Has Lunch Date With Rashida Jones” (Monday, 1:33 p.m.)
- Then took a left turn yesterday evening: “New Couple Alert: Jake Gyllenhaal And Rashida Jones??” (Monday, 6 p.m.)”
- Then another yesterday morning: “Rashida Jones And Jake Gyllenhaal Might Be Dating Because, Duh, Look At Them!!!” (Tuesday, 9:26 a.m.)
- Until the rumor became: “Jake Gyllenhaal and Rashida Jones Probably Have Sex Now” (yesterday, 11:10 a.m.)
As for the Anna rumor, it began yesterday morning.
- The first headline I saw accompanying the hug photo: “Jake Gyllenhaal And Anna Kendrick Get Close” (Tuesday, 9:58 a.m.)
- Soon, it became: “Jake Gyllenhaal and Anna Kendrick Spotted Cuddling Close” (Tuesday, 11:51 a.m.)
- And then took a turn to: “Jake Gyllenhaal and Anna Kendrick More Than Just Co-Stars?” (Tuesday, 12:10 p.m.)
- And: “Anna Kendrick and Jake Gyllenhaal?” (Tuesday, 12:45 p.m.)
- Until finally, the two rumors merged: “Jake Gyllenhaal Doubles His Pleasure: Weekend Date With Rashida Jones … and Anna Kendrick?!” (Tuesday, 1:27 p.m.)
My guess: Jake isn’t dating either of these ladies. He just happened to hang out with two friends and, thanks to paparazzi pics and salacious headlines, a mountain was made out a molehill. Your thoughts?
