A “Saved By The Bell”/”Final Destination 5″ Mash-Up

In my opinion, Miles Fisher’s video for “New Romance” is the 2011 answer to Weezer’s “Buddy Holly.” But warning: it is definitely not for the faint of heart. The concept here is that Miles and his “Final Destination 5″ co-stars step into the neon Keds of Zack Morris, AC Slater, Kelly Kapowsi, Jessie Spano, and the rest of the “Saved By The Bell” crew. But in “Final Destination,” these kids can’t outrun death and they can’t here either. One by one, they meet extremely gruesome ends. So how did Miles come up with this idea? “For each song that I write, I always think about how I want the video to be done,” he explained. “So for this one I really wanted a high school setting to go along with this happy-go-lucky pop song. The original idea was a happy back-to-school song about high school and new romance, and I was always kind of thinking of Kelly Kapowski in the back of my head. She’s like the typical high school dream girl. It’s funny people people will comment on the video and say, ‘Man, this video is so cool, not crazy about the song though.’ But I think of the song more as a soundtrack to the video, not necessarily a stand-alone track.”

Nice.
