Elizabeth Banks On The Over-The-Top Female Comedy She Wrote Before “Bridesmaids”

“The studio execs were like, ‘People don’t want to see girls [in the bathroom].’ And I was like, ‘I’m writing from experience! You go to a club and you have to wait in a huge line, so people double up. And, yes, you think you’re only going to take a little pee, but sometimes some poops come out.’ We never got the pooping scene as right as they got it in ‘Bridesmaids.’”

—Elizabeth Banks talks to New York about trying to sell a female comedy she wrote called “What About Barb?” in the days before “Bridesmaids.” Interestingly, the movie had a very similar plot—a bride is forced to make a crazy cousin her maid of honor—and a similar scene.
