Neil Patrick Harris To Get A Show On The Oprah Winfrey Network?

If what I am about to tell you is actually true, I have far higher hopes for the Oprah Winfrey Network than I did 10 minutes ago. According to the National Enquirer, the amazing Neil Patrick Harris and the Big O are discussing him getting his own talk show on the network. “After their initial conversation, Oprah was intrigued enough to set up two follow-up brainstorming meetings on Skype with Neil,” an insider squealed. “Oprah is mentoring Neil while also trying to bolster her own brand.”

Let me count the ways that I LOVE this idea. Neil has consistently been my favorite award show host—he was adorbs in his opening number for this year’s Tony Awards and rocked the 2009 Emmys. He is absolutely hilarious as Barney Stimson on “How I Met Your Mother” and did an amazing guest spot on “Glee.” Plus, hello, he is the man behind the new “Smurfs.” Not to mention that he’s super smart and reflective. And he is a parent to twins—something that will endear him to the primarily female viewership. Plus, he’s gay—one of very few out men in Hollywood—and a true testament to the power of being your authentic self in the public eye.

I think Neil has far, far more potential than Dr. Phil, Sarah Ferguson, Tatum O’Neal, Gayle King, Dr. Laura Berman, or Rosie O’Donnell—all of whom Oprah has already tapped for shows. I think Neil could bring a funny edge to self-help-y topics—he’s far more in the Ellen DeGeneres tradition than Oprah’s—and would do great celebrity interviews.

What do you think—would you watch Neil on Oprah?
