Beyonce Chooses Indie Designers For Album’s Fashion Spreads

Imagine you’re a fresh-faced lil’ college student at FIT, and Beyonce’s — yes, Beyonce’s — creative director, Jenke-Ahmed Tailly, gets in touch and says the Divine Miss B wants to wear one of your creations in the folds of her next album. That’s what just happened to Lleah Rae, whose yellow ruffled dress Beyonce sports in the gatefold of her newest record 4. In fact, Bey chose a selection of lesser known designers for the deluxe version of her album, including 27-year-old designer Maxime Simoens and Dutch designer Jan Taminiau. Bey’s apparently moved on from her mom Tina’s House of Deréon line (thank God) and is focused on designers who create unique, quality pieces. Explains Tailly: “Each song really has a different personality so we decided to do the cover like an editorial for a magazine, with each song having its own style.” Digging it! [NY Times]
