Job I Want: Sand Castle Consultant

Are you looking to pick up some extra cash this summer? Apparently there are big bucks to be made in the sand castle industry. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, top “sand castle consultants” can rake in up to five figures during sand-sculpture season, which is beginning to resemble the pro-golf or tennis circuits.

“Just one [sand-castle] consulting gig can garner thousands of dollars, while building a birthday sand castle in an hour can yield a fee of $300 … Lucinda Wierenga, who goes by the professional name Sandy Feet … teaches sand-sculpting workshops and gives private lessons for upwards of $75 per hour [and] says she expects to make around $65,000 this year.”

Um, what? So basically these people make up to five figures building/judging sand castles at beaches around the world? Would someone please tell me how I can become qualified to become a sand castle consultant immediately? I mean, I used to build when I was a kid. Does that count? I think I’ll call myself “Sandinista.” [WSJ]
