Love At First Stroke: OPI’s “Play The Peonies” Nail Polish
It’s been years since I’ve fallen in love with a pink nail lacquer. I usually prefer variations of gray, which are season-less, or some sort of red, which a friend says has become my signature. But I was curious about the new, limited-edition Nice Stems! by OPI collection of shades of pink, from pale frosty pink to rich fuchsia. I was initially drawn to “I Lily Love You,” because who doesn’t love a tint of pink with flecks of glitter? But last week, I wanted something new, so I tried “Play the Peonies,” a soft, frosty pink from the same collection. And what do you know? I fell in love. “Play the Peonies” is the lightest color in the collection. I usually stay away from frosty colors, which have a tendency to make brown skin look ashy, or those that look too “natural.” I like my nails to make an impact if they’re going to get noticed at all. I was surprised at how much I liked “Play the Peonies” after my manicurist applied the first stroke. It’s a very soft pink, but the tiny flecks of mica in it give the color a hint of gray. “Play the Peonies” made my nails seem longer and elongated my fingers. I like a round shape for my nails, but I think this color will look just as beautiful on square-shaped nails. “Play the Peonies” is also a nice complement to “Your Royal Shineness,” a silver lacquer with flecks of mica from Serena Williams‘ Glam Slam! England OPI collection, which I’m wearing on my toenails.
Nice Stems! is available now at professional salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, JCPenney, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, and ULTA, for $8.50 for each nail lacquer.
