In general, my favorite fare comes from the state fair. As a kid, I fell in love with deep-fried Oreos and Mars Bars and pickles. More recently, as fryers got more creative, I marveled at deep-fried Coca-Cola. And now we have the next frontier: deep fried Kool-Aid, a treat that Charlie Boghosian whipped up for the San Diego County Fair using cherry Kool-Aid, flour, and water dunked in oil. While the Washington Post isn’t into it, I think it sounds delicious. Though for the record, in years past, Boghosian made deep-fried butter which doesn’t sound nearly as appealing.
