Take a trip in the wayback machine to 1992: I used to dye my hair with Manic Panic and Kool-Aid (yes, Kool Aid, and yes, my mom thought I was crazy) because it was a very punk rock thing to do, and all my idols in riot grrl bands and on the pages of Sassy magazine did the same. These days, every popstar on the block has had a brightly colored streak moment, with far less bleach involved.
