Goldie Hawn And Darren Star’s Possible New Show: “The Viagra Diaries”

We love Kate Hudson. But even moreso, we love her mama, Goldie Hawn. So I am pretty darn excited that Goldie has signed on for a new prospective HBO series called “The Viagra Diaries,” about a woman who, when her husband has a midlife crisis and leaves her at 65, is left single for the first time in three decades. The show is being executive produced and written by Darren Star, the man behind “Beverly Hills, 90210” and “Sex and the City.”

This is exciting on so many levels.First of all, since Hollywood is known for putting actresses out to pasture in their 40s, it’s refreshing to see an actress who has just qualified for AARP membership get her own show, one with a possibility to become big. I guess Betty White (who is 20 years Goldie’s senior) has taught us that people don’t tune out just because they see a few wrinkles. Here’s hoping Goldie can push for more shows on television that aren’t about teenagers or 20-somethings.

Not to mention that Goldie is a great actress. She proved she can do funny on the show “Laugh-In” and in movies like “Overboard,” but she can also do drama—she is an Oscar winner, after all. I’d welcome the chance to see her on the small screen every week.

And Darren Star is behind the series that, perhaps more than any other, gave an honest look at the complexities of love and friendship in the 21st century. “Sex and the City” managed to be hilarious and poignant at the same time, and given a new age group and set of struggles to explore, I’m sure Darren can deliver the same in this series.

What do you think—would you want to watch “The Viagra Diaries” if it makes it to air?
