We Can’t Wait for Full Figured Fashion Week

Get ready, girls: Full-Figured Fashion Week is just about upon us. According to the event’s mission, Full-Figured Fashion Week “will not only provide an opportunity for independent designers to market their collections to a wider audience, and a unique opportunity for plus models to gain more professional exposure on the runway, but also a chance for the media, buyers and the general public to have access to collections that have not received the marketing and publicity they deserve.” “It’s been crazy,” said organizer Gwen Devoe. “It’s just exploding. Women are finally getting a chance to see fashion come alive on models with bodies they can relate to.”
Devoe said she started the showcase because, “Plus-size women in America want fashionable, well-made clothes. We have money to spend. and we’re happy to give it to the designers and stores who help us celebrate our curves.” The event will include dresses, shoes, swimwear from independent designers — like Sweetooth Couture’s Rachel Kacenjar. “A lot of clothing for plus-sized women is just really ugly,” said Kacenjar. “There’s a lot of business-casual apparel but really not very much for women who want something different or unusual.”

Full-Figured Fashion Week is hoping to change that. “I hope these women realize that they can feel beautiful and that there is clothing out there that can make women feel confident,” said designer Alexander, who makes formal eveningwear. “It’s really true that putting on the right outfit can help you be your best self.” [NYDN]
