Rumor: Hillary Clinton Wants To Head The World Bank

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton wants to head the World Bank after leaving the State Department in 2012, several sources have told Reuters. Her press secretary denied the rumor, but Clinton publicly stated in January she wouldn’t continue as Secretary of State if President Obama is reelected in 2012 because it’s an exhausting “24/7 job.” If the World Bank’s current president were to step down at the end of his term in 2012 and Clinton were to take over — which would require the approval of its 187 member countries — she would be the first woman in history to do so.Generally, the role of the World Bank is to provide assistance to developing countries around the world. That is in line with Clinton’s mission to empower the women of the developing world, which she’s done her entire tenure in public life but especially as Secretary of State. I would personally be disappointed to see Clinton leave the State Department because I love the work she is doing. However, it sounds like she would be able to have a similar positive impact at the World Bank — or perhaps even more of a positive impact — if freed from diplomatic constraints.

What do you think about Hillary Clinton possibly heading to the World Bank? Would you prefer she remain Secretary of State? Would you like to see her run for president again in 2016? Tell us in the comments.
