The National Enqurier, purveyor of all news factual, has a juicy little tidbit about the Palin family: Bristol Palin has allegedly “banned’ her mother Sarah Palin from Bristol’s new Arizona home because they disagree about … wait for it … gay marriage. The Enquirer claims Bristol spent so much time with gay dudes on “Dancing With The Stars” that she’s is now questioning the bigoted views held by her mother and has exiled Sarah from her Maricopa, AZ, digs. “Bristol is completely rebelling against her mother — now that she’s experiencing life outside of Alaska and away from Sarah. She has opened her eyes and realized how sheltered and programmed she was,” a source told the Enquirer. “When Bristol told Sarah that she is thinking of supporting gay marriage and doesn’t believe religion should have anything to do with equal rights for all, Sarah began fuming. [Sarah] told [Bristol] she better never go public with that thought, fearing it would hurt her political career,” the source claims. “Bristol told her mother that she’s a grown woman who makes her own living and is free to believe what she wants. If Sarah doesn’t accept her, she isn’t welcome in her home.”
On the one hand, I think this is likely the same old sexist, women-are-always-catfighting BS that the tabloids print about all women, including the Palins. But on the other hand, I have a conspiracy theory: I don’t think 20-year-old Bristol will go Berkeley shiksa feminista anytime soon and toss aside the buckets of money she earns from preaching abstinence.
But I do think that portraying Bristol as Sarah Palin’s more “liberal,” youthful daughter who doesn’t think gays should be treated as second class citizens could be a ruse. Just like Meghan McCain was trotted out for a bit as the voice of young Republicans when her dad John McCain ran and later became a columnist and book author, Bristol might be being groomed to represent a younger, slightly less socially conservative generation.
Or maybe Bristol’s just as tired of the pitbull in lipstick as we all are. As long as any of Bristol’s alleged treat-gays-with-respect views rub off on Facebook-ranting Willow Palin, I don’t care. [Daily Mail UK]
