Drew Barrymore To Teach Us “How To Be Single”

Drew Barrymore is gearing up to direct her second flick, and instead of delving into the wild world of roller derby, this time around Drew will be covering more familiar territory—the state of the single person. The movie, “How To Be Single,” is based on a novel by Luz Tucillo and will be adapted by Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn, the scribes behind the Drew-produced “He’s Just Not That Into You.” The movie will tell the story of a group of single New Yorkers and will follow them over the course of 10 years. “Love is never gonna be a tired subject,” Drew says. “Being single, this one definitely speaks to me and I’ve explored it a lot in the last year and a half. I’m at that age where I’m sort of straddling a great line right now and I can see both sides very well… It’s hopefully, in a lot of ways, not a romantic comedy. People have this weird stigma [with] that word — it’s a turnoff to guys or whatever. But I think we’ve honed in on a style that will be more universal, a little bit ageless and not gender specific.” And with that, she has piqued my interest. [EW]
