Frieda Pinto Learns To Love Herself

“There’s one disturbing notion throughout India that light skin is more attractive than dark … When you doubt one thing about yourself, you start thinking there’s also something wrong with your hair, your body, your clothes, your accent. A woman came up to me and said, ‘I’d love to have your skin because it’s so beautiful.’ She was as pale as could be, and my first thought was, where I come from, people want to be your color. It was then that I realized people always want what they don’t have. And I decided to be happy with the way I’m made.”

–”Slumdog Millionaire” actress Frieda Pinto, on learning to accept herself. When she was a model, Pinto admitted she used to audition for jobs selling “fairness creams,” which aimed to lighten Indian skin to a Caucasian ideal. [ONTD]
