“Grey’s Anatomy” Goes Musical Tonight

“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” did it once. “Glee” does it every week. Tonight’s “Grey’s Anatomy” will be a musical episode, tasking the cast with belting out tunes like The Fray’s “How to Save a Life,” Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars,” and Brandi Carlile’s “The Story.” The standout star of the night will be Sara Rameriez, who won a Tony for her performance in “Spamalot” on Broadway before joining the cast of “Grey’s.” The episode focuses around her, as her character Callie Torres dreams up the whole melody-filled thing when she is seriously injured in a car accident.

But there was one doc at Seattle Grace who was not onboard to sing.“I have no voice at all, so I was very adamant not to sing,” said Patrick Dempsey, who plays Dr. Derek Shepherd on the show. “Everybody was a little leery of it at first, because we were like ‘Well, should we jump on the bandwagon of ‘Glee?” because they do what they do so beautifully. But it was an opportunity, I think, for some of the cast members to really show their talents musically. And it’s really quite moving when you hear Sara’s voice and Kevin’s voice. Even Justin Chambers sings beautifully, and Eric Dane does a great job. So it’s really nice to see them have a moment to shine in a different way.”

Even though I’m scared off by all the blood in this preview, I will be watching tonight. Will you? [People]
