All women are responsible for their own rapes, duh, which is why a Toronto police officer brilliantly advised the female students of Osgoode Hall Law School in January that “women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized.” Yeah, a cop actually offered that as a “safety tip.” In response to this victim-blaming, “sluts and allies” are taking to the streets on April 3 for a SlutMarch. The activists organizing the event say they’re taking the term “slut” that the police officer used in a derogatory manner and re-appropriating as a point of pride, which I love.
