What do the fashionable jihadists of the world read? Why, Al Qaeda’s “Cosmo-style” (that’s Fashionista’s words, not ours) ladymag Al-Shamikha, which means “majestic woman.” The glossy 30-page magazine boasts interviews with martyrs’ wives, beauty advice on how to keep skin clear (not surprisingly, that boils down to “staying inside with your face covered”), and helpful hints for single ladies trying to score a “mujahideen,” or Muslim fighter. Our favorite article? The piece cautioning readers against “toweling too forcibly.” Women always be toweling too forcibly. The magazine’s publishers say they decided to put out a magazine geared to women because:

“Women constitute half of the population – and one might even say that they are the population since they give birth to the next generation – the enemies of Islam are bent on preventing the Muslim woman from knowing the truth about her religion and her role, since they know all too well what would happen if women entered the field of jihad… The nation of Islam needs women who know the truth about their religion and about the battle and its dimensions and know what is expected of them.”
