Step aside, Robert Redford and Mia Farrow. Baz Luhrman’s new onscreen version of “The Great Gatsby” keeps getting bigger and better. We were pretty pumped a few months ago when we heard that Leonardo DiCaprio would be taking on the role of everyone’s favorite social climber. Oh, and then we saw that adorable Carey Mulligan had been cast as his Daisy, with Tobey Maguire stripping off the spidey suit to play Nick Carraway. Now we hear that the film will be turning New South Wales into its East Egg. And the strangest news of all—the whole thing will be shot in 3D. It seems like a strange choice for the great American novel, but, then again, we loved Luhrman’s “Romeo + Juliet” and “Moulin Rouge” so much that we are willing to withhold judgment until the bright colors, big song and dance numbers, and outrageous costumes are swirling in front of us. Here’s hoping “Gatsby” can get the bad taste of “Australia” out of our mouths. [Huffington Post]
