Decode My Dream: “Am I Insecure?”

I am in a wonderful relationship, with the most wonderful man I have ever met. He is my best friend, confidant and lover. I am the happiest I have ever been in my entire life.

However, I have been having reoccurring dreams that my boyfriend cheats on me, leaves me OR ignores me while I cry and beg for his attention. More specifically, I had a dream last night that he was giving me the silent treatment — while I am sobbing he simply says, very coolly, “You’re not good enough for me.” I always wake up feeling confused and hurt because in the two years that we’ve been together, he has never done anything to betray my trust.

It seems that my dreams are telling me that I am needy and/or insecure, but that is not who I am in real life. I am a confident young woman with a very fulfilling life. I am hoping you can help me decode whatever my subconscious is trying to tell me.– Confused

Dear Confused,

I’m sure you are one kick ass lady and your relationship sounds awesome. No matter how happy we are in our lives or confident we are in ourselves, we all have insecurities that plague us from time to time. It’s part of being human. There’s always room for growth.

Our dreams are the language of our unconscious minds, the parts of ourselves that we are not always in touch with in our waking lives. There may be a little teeny, tiny part of you that fears that you are secretly undeserving of all the blessings in your life, including your man. This could be a residual thought pattern from a previous, not as amazing relationship, or even something from your childhood. Part of you may be getting a certain validation from your boyfriend that you could instead, be providing for yourself.

Your inner self is just asking you to be aware, not be afraid. You may want to spend some time reflecting on what your insecurities are and how you can love yourself even better, separate from your relationship. Embrace these fears as part of your own self-growth and I think these upsetting dreams will stop and your dream life will be just as rocking as your real one.
