Buffy Who? Sarah Michelle Gellar To Star In A New Thriller Series

Over the weekend, I got sucked into a “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” marathon on Oxygen. The classic vampire show was, in a word, amazing and Sarah Michelle Gellar was the perfect mix of kick-butt and vulnerable, with spot-on comedic timing. So why has her career tanked? Luckily, Sarah has a new show in the works—CBS’ “Ringer.” (Which bears no relationship to “The Ring.”) In this now-greenlit thriller series, Sarah plays twin sisters, uber-troubled Bridget and wealthy, perfect Siobhan, who had a big falling out for some mysterious reason. When Siobhan dies in a boating accident, troubled Bridget steps in and assumes her life, even sleeping in the same bed with her husband, only to find that she has a bounty on her head, too. Entertainment Weekly sat down with producer Peter Traugott to get the details on the new show. He says that getting Sarah to sign on was not difficult. “Sarah’s manager got it to her, and she fell in love with the piece,” he said. “One thing she wanted to guard against was making sure that she whatever she does in TV, she does something that her fans who had grown up loving Buffy will also be excited about. And we think this show has that quality to it.”

So why Sarah? “I think what’s remarkable about [Sarah] as an actor—and very few people have this ability—is that she can play both sides well,” says Traugott. “If you remember ‘Cruel Intentions,’ she was the villain, but you found yourself kind of rooting for her anyway. That’s what we’re looking for. How do we find something where her character has some edge, there’s some darkness to her, she doesn’t always do the right thing, but at the end of the day, you’re also rooting for her?”

Yeah, I kinda can’t wait for this one. [EW]
