Should We Forget About Equality In The Workplace And Just Marry Rich?
A new report published in Europe found that 40 years of reform to promote gender equality in the workplace may have been all for naught. As much as it’s become politically incorrect to admit, the stats show that the majority of women would rather find a rich man to marry than have a successful career.
“Women’s aspiration to marry up, if they can, to a man who is better-educated and higher-earning, persists in most European countries. Women thereby continue to use marriage as an alternative or supplement to their employment careers.”
Seriously? This makes my skin crawl. Not that a woman would want to marry a successful and educated man, but just that they would want to instead of building a career of their own. In my mind, marriage shouldn’t be a supplement for anything, merely an enhancement. Initially, I tried to rationalize this assertion. Maybe it has to do with the pay gap between the sexes? Not even the case. The explanation? Women tend to “choose different priorities for their lives.”
