Frisky Reader Revealed: Kicking It With Chilosa161

Hands down, the best thing about working at The Frisky is our amazing readers. We so heart all of your witty, thoughtful, and informative comments—heck, we even appreciate the mean ones. Sometimes, we can’t help but wonder about the faces behind the avatars. So we decided to launch a weekly column where we learn all about a Frisky reader. After the jump, meet Chilosa161, one of our most prolific commenters. Please state your name, age, and location for The Friskyverse.

Coleen, 23 years old, currently living in Colorado but moving soon to Chile.

How did you find the site?

I think I was searching for advice about how to handle a breakup, and I found all the relationship resources on The Frisky incredibly helpful. That and I saw an article titled “I’m Older Than You, Here’s Some Advice,” cracked up, and was hooked for life.

What do you do all day, other than follow The Frisky, which is totally condoned?

I was a study abroad adviser at my alma mater for a long time, helping students to navigate the sometimes very complex road to going abroad in college or after it. This was my last week (so sad!) and now I’m on full-time GRE study duty and working on getting my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate. And studying Spanish. Imagine a bathtub full of flashcards. That’s my life at the moment.

Relationship status?

2010, from March on, was the first time I’ve been without a serious relationship in six years, so I’ve had a lot of fun redefining my ideas about relationships, love, sex, and men. Facebook says I’m “single,” but that’s a gross oversimplification. “Nonexclusive” would work better.

What is your fave post in recent Frisky history?

I always love reading the Dater X column, and her post about the pressure on single or uncoupled people on New Year’s Eve really hit home recently. The post about things we’d never do again in bed was also great, and I’m always a sucker for the shirtless men articles (especially the Hanukkah edition).

What are your pop culture guilty pleasures?

I’ll confess; I watch “Jersey Shore.” Religiously. With my mother. I also often find myself sucked into an episode of “Teen Mom,” and if I’m really ill, I treat myself to a “Maury” marathon. Those shows are just mesmerizing.

Can you share your most embarrassing dating story? We always share ours. It’s only fair.

There are so many! But there is one that made it so my awkwardness tolerance level is now nearly impenetrable that happened this summer. I met “my Italian” this summer in Amalfi, and we were going on a dressed-up date. We were walking arm-in-arm when we heard his name from behind us, and a girl walked up and started cussing us out, identifying herself as his girlfriend. We were on the main street in between two towns and it became something out of a movie, with her screaming in Italian and slapping him and me standing there watching all the shocked as tourists scampered by. I walked off and went to get a beer alone. Eventually, my date escaped his lady friend and found me in town, explaining that she was actually his ex (I’ll never know if that was actually the truth). He brought me back to his parents’ house and we stayed the night in his childhood bed. In the morning, I got to meet literally his entire family, 86-year-old grandmother and all, and he introduced me as his fiancé. I had to sit through a four-hour family lunch before I could finally escape!

Who is your celebrity doppelganger?

Because I’m tall and blond, I get Heidi Klum and Uma Thurman a lot.

What type of skivvies do you have on right now?

Black and white polka-dotted thong with lace trim. I call them my “funderwear.”

What is your secret talent?

I’m really good at learning languages and at identifying ones I don’t yet speak. Right now I speak English, Italian, French, and Spanish but I can understand a lot in Portuguese and in dialects of Italian (which are basically separate languages entirely). I want to learn Russian, Arabic, and Korean next.

Favorite book, movie, musician or band?

I really enjoyed the book Tinkers by Paul Harding this year. “Hero” directed by Yimou Zhang is my favorite movie of all time. I’m all over the place musically, but lately I’ve been loving the album Sigh No More by Mumford & Sons so much I seem to have it on infinite loop.

Who is your celebrity crush?

I have a thing for soccer players, and that naked/muddy picture of Tim Howard posted on The Frisky a few months ago sparked a pretty big crush on him. I also swoon for Robert Downey Jr. and (slightly embarrassingly) Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

What’s something you hope to see more of on The Frisky?

I’d prefer to see more articles about DIY fashion and decorating, even though there are a few of them already. And more about travel, especially as a woman traveling alone!
